A major airline is eyeing Tampa International Airport as its next destination. A report from One Mile at a Time and Ishrion Aviation states that “London Heathrow Airport’s Initial Coordination Report for the winter season shows Virgin Atlantic launching a new flight between London Heathrow (LHR) and Tampa (TPA).”
Nothing is confirmed as of yet, and Virgin Atlantic isn’t yet ready to announce whether the planned route has been made official. Tentative plans show the flight would operate daily using a 258-seat Boeing 787-9. Based on the filing, Virgin Atlantic plans to offer a total of 75,852 seats in the market, which translates to a total of 294 trips.
If it were to go through, trips could begin this winter. British Airways currently offers nonstop service to London from Tampa International Airport. Those flights operate about 6 days per week from the airport. London is certainly one of TPA’s largest international markets, and one they hope to serve even more.

In late 2021, TPA also landed new nonstop service to mainland Europe aboard Eurowings.
