There’s a new spot to call home in Historic Ybor City. A ribbon cutting is set for Lector 85 with Ybor City Chamber of Commerce at 4:30pm on August 24. Tampa Mayor Jane Castor will be in attendance for the ceremony. Located in the historical and tight-knit neighborhood of Ybor City, Lector 85 apartment homes pay homage to lectors, the individuals who entertained and imparted new ideals to workers in the area.
Lector 85 was made to provide the “sleekest standard of living and be one of the most luxury apartments Tampa offers,” write the Lector 85 managers. Their modern interior finishes and convenient community perks billed as the perfect addition to this historical and cultural hub.
Many will recognize the Lector 85 name and its ties to Ybor. Founded in 1885, Ybor City coined a unique profession and cultural leader known as “Lectors.” To stay entertained throughout the workday, the historic cigar factory workers would open pay individuals to read books, newspapers, and magazines aloud for hours on end.
These individuals eventually became known as Lectors and evolved into highly respected influential leaders who imparted new ideas. Today, Lector 85 exists to celebrate Ybor’s roots while providing a space for a new generation of cultural leaders to emerge.
