Major cleanup planned for the Tampa Riverwalk this September, and you can join

Date:

The Tampa Riverwalk is one of the most stunning gems in the city of Tampa. This beautiful pedestrian and cyclist path connects Tampa Heights to the Water Street area, and grants easy and walkable access to spots such as the Straz Center, Curtis Hixon Park, and Sparkman Wharf. This September, the community is getting together to help this treasure shine even brighter. Friends of the Riverwalk works in tandem with the City of Tampa in transforming the downtown landscape, opening public access to Tampa’s lovely waterfront and linking five museums, seven parks and numerous hotels, restaurants and outdoor gathering places.

Residents and visitors are invited to join the Tampa Riverwalk Cleanup on September 10 from 8am-11am. You can learn a bit more about the event on the Friends of the Tampa Riverwalk page.

Residents invited to cleanup the Tampa Riverwalk

This cleanup is in partnership with Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful as a part of their Trash Free Waters Program and serves as a call to action to create more sustainable communities by focusing volunteer efforts on activities that impact individuals in need, lead to aesthetic community improvements, and provide a positive environmental impact. Litter on roadways, in parks, rivers, and neighborhoods negatively affects the environment, and isn’t something residents or visitors want to see in their community. Participants in the cleanup will assist with litter removal and beautification of the downtown area.

Volunteers can either walk and clean up, or bring their own kayak vessel and join volunteers in the water. Parking information will be distributed via email closer to the event date. You can go online today to register for the event.

There’s exciting news coming out about the Tampa Riverwalk extension that incudes the potential for the path to cross through Port Tampa Bay and straight to Florida Aquarium.
